| “Since
singing is so good a thing, I wish all men would learne to
singe.”
(William Byrd, one of the great
English composers of the 16th Century)
HCS is always delighted to welcome new members, with a particular
interest in tenors and basses just at the moment. Do come
to our open rehearsal on 24th January 2006.
Current membership fee is : £140. There is a £5
discount for paying in full early in the season (i.e. by the
end of September). [NOTE : for those under 25, membership
is FREE.]
The Treasurer is always very happy to discuss alternative
ways of paying the subscription recognising that for some
a single payment of this size is not practical.
For example, as an alternative to payment in one amount, subs
can be paid in three instalments by post-dated cheques, the
first of £50 dated 1 October 2006, the second of £45
dated 1 Jan 2007 and the third of £45 dated 1 April
2007.
Subscription forms are used to compile membership details.
All members are asked to complete a form including those under
25 where no subscription is payable. Forms and subscriptions
should be given to Jean Boyter.
Gift aid increases significantly the benefit of subscriptions
to the society at no cost or inconvenience to you. If you
or the person paying the subscription is a taxpayer, there
is provision on the membership form to complete and sign the
declaration.
Some members have in previous years waived the discount and
made donations over and above the amount of the subscription,
for both of which we are very grateful.
membership includes :
| - |
weekly rehearsals (conductor, accompanist
and suitable venue) |
| - |
all music for the season (though the option to buy is
available for those who wish to do so) |
| - |
the musical aspects of four major concerts a year most
of which are accompanied by professional musicians and
named orchestras (this season will include the New London
Orchestra and English Sinfonia) and use professional soloists |
| - |
all aspects of the staging of those concerts |
| - |
marketing of society events |

The only exception
to everything being provided as part of the membership subscription
is the concert dress which members are expected to provide.
For ladies, the blouse worn at concerts is of a standard pattern
and can be acquired from the Society at a modest charge. All
members are also requested to use standard black folders which
are also available from the Society for a small charge.
