Support for charities

The Hertford Choral Society has taken a leading role in putting on major fundraising concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, London with the Joint Herts Choirs organisation

The first three concerts - Britten’s War Requiem (1993), Mahler’s Eighth Symphony (1997) and Verdi’s Requiem (2003)- resultied in a total of around £100,000 being raised for the charity, The British Council for Prevention of Blindness.

The fourth concert was given on Sunday, 4th November 2007 from which the charity (BCPB) is expected to receive around £25,000.

At the annual Christmas concert, which is given with the Hertford Symphony Orchestra, a collection is always taken and divided between two charities – one local and one national.

In recent years, these sums have been donated :

Approx £550 to: Parkinson Disease, ME Association
Approx £500 to: Hertford Speakability, Childline
Approx £450 to: Lister Kidney Foundation, National Society for Phenylketonuria
Approx £300 to: CHIPS Christmas Charity, Red Cross Christmas Charity
